Q. Should I get maternity coverage before or after I get pregnant?
A. Most plans require a minimum of 10 months between the policy start date and the baby’s date of birth. It’s therefore essential to put your plan in place before becoming pregnant.
2. Q. I’m already pregnant. Can I still receive maternity coverage?
If you are currently pregnant, you cannot get coverage. We suggest you check with the Utah Department of Health Resource Line at 888-222-2542 for other options that might be available to you.
3. Q. Do these supplemental maternity insurance plans affect my major medical health insurance?
A. Most of our maternity plans are supplemental or indemnity plans meaning that they will pay a fixed sum, regardless of any other insurance plans you are currently covered by. For those clients who currently have a large deductible on their current major medical health insurance, we do offer a plan that can help pay the deductible, keeping your out-of-pocket costs lower.
4. Q. How are claims paid?
A. In most instances, the insurance company will send a check directly to you. From there, what you do with the money is entirely up to you. Use it for baby supplies, pay off your deductible, pay off hospital bills, etc.
5. Q. How do I know what plan is right for me?
A. Maternity Money works one-on-one with each of its clients to ensure that the most appropriate selection is made. Together, we’ll determine your needs and financial means and choose the best plan to suit you and your family.
6. Q. How long before my plan is in place?
A. Once you select your plan, we will then submit your applications. Once it is approved by the insurance company, the policy’s effective date will usually be in just a few days.
7. Q. Does my maternity coverage require me to use a particular hospital or doctor?
A. The supplemental plans do not limit your doctor or hospital choice. In fact, you are free to choose any doctor or hospital anywhere in the country. We also offer major medical insurance that includes a maternity benefit. These plans typically have a network of doctors and hospitals that you would use.
8. Q. What happens if I purchase maternity coverage, but then don’t become pregnant and would like to cancel?
A. You are always free to cancel coverage at any time.
9. Q. What if my newborn needs to be placed in newborn ICU?
A. We offer plans that pay benefits for such situations and others common to high-risk pregnancies. They can provide substantial benefits if your baby is in the Intensive Care Unit. These plans must also be purchased before you become pregnant.
